#ROW80 Checkin – Down Under but not Out

It’s been quiet on here lately, for a reason. I’ve just returned from a trip back to New Zealand with my daughter. This was my first return to my home country for 14 years, and my daughter’s first trip to a country that is partially her birth right. We stayed with an old friend in her new country estate north of Auckland.

Goodness, the trip made me homesick. It was just the sounds of the native birds that brought it all back – not as raucous as the sounds coming from Aussie creatures. We looked out over beautiful bushland filled with punga tree ferns, giant kauri, toi toi and flaxes. I can’t say the stay was restful, or particularly relaxing, but without internet access, or much to do at night, I managed to catch up with lots of reading.

I read a couple of new writing craft books (on my iPAD) and when I woke late at night (I’m a light sleeper, and my host was a heavy snorer, need I say more?) I read, and took copious new notes for the re-visualising and revisions for my novel.

So, yeah – still keeping up with my admittedly very flexible writing goals for this month. Although this week with my daughter now home for the school holidays, I’m being reminded of the impact her presence around the house has on my goals, and my want to spend more time tidying up ready for Christmas next week.

ROW80LogoSmWe’re all doing okay, though. And this is my last post for 2012’s Round of Words in 80 Days challenge. I hope all those who have finished off ROW80 this year have had some moments of success in their own goals also, and I wish them all a happy holidays and break until the new year.
