The 5 habits of highly motivated novelists are hardly startling stuff for many of us – other than the fact that authors who logged the most writing time using rescuetime's productivity and monitoring tools, also took dinner breaks.
The rescuetime's blog post on the results also says none of the writers studied wrote during Thanksgiving. Obviously the data used here is American based. It would be interesting to see some results from an international perspective at some point, particularly regarding the night time habit, and the habits needed to write through different seasonal patterns and distractions.
The other habit of more interest to me is the “occasional marathon days” – something I use as a solid plan, and in an emergency. There's a lot to catching up and going over-the-top in wordcount – of getting ahead of the game, that provides further motivation to keep in control.
